Generation Nutrition: Call to Action for the UK Government to pledge big at Rio 2016
For over a year we've campaigned for a new global commitment to end childhood wasting – the deadliest form of malnutrition together with Generation Nutrition, a growing movement led by Action Against Hunger and other aid agencies calling on world leaders to safeguard millions of children by prioritising acute malnutrition in the next global development goals. 93,000 of you signed the petition! And on 25th September 2015, for the first time ever, world leaders adopted a new goal to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030.
This is a monumental success, but the job’s not over yet. We need more than targets and commitments—we need resources.
Without the funding to invest in programmes and policies that put the nutrition needs of people first, we will miss the 2030 target by decades! At the current rate, it will take 150 years to end child wasting for good. But it doesn’t need to be this way.
The 2016 Nutrition for Growth summit, taking place during the Summer Olympics in Rio, is the next big opportunity to increase investment directed at ending malnutrition.
